Oh Summer with your bright bold hues! That’s always what I see when I think of summer. RED, BLUE, YELLOW! The brighter the better. But spurred on by a creative class that I’m taking, I grabbed my camera in search of the “Subtle” part of summer. Those lighter hues that get a little left behind once Summer hits.
I went to the backyard. That wonderful place that just keeps giving and giving. I found lots of blackberries sitting on the vine waiting to ripen. (Today I found a recipe for blackberry Scones. Can’t wait to try that out!)
I’m not much of a gardener. I used to say that I had a “black thumb”, but that’s not totally true. I just have never tried. I think it’s a patience thing that I just haven’t developed yet. Not patience in general, just patience with plants. Anyway, most of my yard is, well, weeds. Okay, so my total front yard is weeds right now. CRAZY growing, super, fast, over-night weeds.
Spiders, Flies, and weeds grow B.I.G. and fast in Germany. Seriously.
So, I’m in the weed patch looking for “Subtle” and I find my most favorite weed of all.

I’m pretty sure that Dr. Suess loved these too, and drew most of his characters from these guys.

If you live in Texas you call these “Wild Flowers”. It’s that a lovely word, “Wild Flowers”…
Flowers that just go wild.
Then a little butterfly posed for me

and I realized it was totally the magic of JULY!
I love JULY!
