Happy, Happy! | KMC Portrait Photographer

Working in a job like this brings many different people into my life.  And seriously people, I LOVE IT!  LOVE.  IT.  LOVE IT!!

And the best part is how those people become friends, and those friends become best friends.  Before you know it, you are taking vacations to other countries to see the new babies, and staying in their homes!  There really are great people in the world, and I say POOO to anyone that would say otherwise.  (I have proof, ask me and I’ll show it to you.)

Last week at a viewing session, as I was about to leave, the client handed me a beautiful handmade Thank you card (Thanks JESSICA!).  It had the most beautiful words inside, and I think I’ve reread that card 10 times in the last few days!  I told her I was gonna put it on my board, and to be honest it just made it to the board today, cause I’ve just been reading it over and over!

I receive notes from clients on occasion, and they always go to my “board”…it’s the Happy Board.  The Happy Board is my favorite thing in the office.  I really cherish each and every note I receive.

Here’s a few things on the board right now:

1.  Coolest thank you note of the ultrasound photo from a maternity shoot.

2.  Sweetest handwritten letter from Carl n’ Mary that came with a calendar!  Seriously, they made a calendar with some pictures and it’s so cute!

3.  A motivational card that I made and is going up for sell at the gallery in Texas

4.  My birthday crown, that I wore all day on my birthday, and sometimes I put on when I’m editing pictures.  Yes, I do.  I’m the queen of this castle, people should know that!

5.  Jessica’s sweet, sweet, card.

6.  A graduation announcement, cause I totally LOVE my seniors!

7.  A card from sweet baby J, all excited about his up coming shoot!

8.  The best most wonderful e-mail EVER, from Italy.  I read this one a lot too!  Love you guys!

9.  My letter of appreciation.  I seriously got one.  I know right?  I have to keep this here..like, forever.

10.  A few inspirational ads from magazines that I totally dig.

Yes, I know, it’s messy.  But that’s what’s great about it!  If you want to find something, you have to dig through the treasures!  There are lots of things on there that I didn’t even mention, cause they are buried.  Maybe, I’ll clean it up.  Or, maybe I won’t cause that’s not me.

I have this “seasonal affective disorder” thing, which I totally diagnosed myself (thank you google, LOL!)  As in, I NEED THE SUN!  I need sunshine.  I gotta have it.  Rainy days, give me the blues.  So when I’m in my Rainy day PJ’s, I just dig through my Happy Board.  Then, I’m HAPPY!  See how awesome that is!

Go out, and make yourself a Happy Board!  I would love to be the first thing on it!  Let me know and I’ll send ya a little something to put on there!

Cutie FACE! | KMC Portrait Photographer

I had a chat with the momma of this little cutie face in the commissary the other day, and it made me realize how much I truly love what I do!  I have met some of the most amazing people and I really feel privileged to call them not only clients but friends!  And this momma is really inspiring to me!  Let me tell you why:  Not only is she a phenomenal wife and mother, but she also just finished her Master’s degree (as in graduated last weekend!) and works full time with the High School kids.  She still has time to chat with me in the commissary!   She has these wonderful goals laid out and she is determined to reach them.  I just love knowing determined women!  It’s so empowering to me, and I really look to her as an example.

So here is her cutie face on her first birthday.   I think that is a really .   LOVED the dress, you know I’m a sucker for polka dots!  Her little giggle really was infectious, and we had a wonderful time!  (you can click on the thumb nails below to make the pictures bigger!)

Happy Mother’s Day!

When I was pregnant, everyone kept telling me how much my life was about to change. I was under the impression that they were talking about all the sleepless nights I was about to have, all the dirty diapers I was about to change, and all the mess I was gonna have to clean up. I’m sure that some of them were talking about those things, but that is not all that changed about my life.
I will be honest, I don’t remember much about those first 6 weeks of my little man’s life. Something that you might not know about me is that I LOVE my sleep. I NEED my sleep. In fact, I’m one of those people that needs a good 10 hours. (And don’t send me notes with all those sleep studies about how you really only need 8 hours, and more than that isn’t good for you…I’ve already read them and I just don’t agree and you can’t change my mind). I did in fact marry a man, who I’m now convinced has AD/HD, that only needs 5 or less hours sleep. And yep, you guessed it, that is one of the many things that my son inherited from his father. Wow, all this to say that, the child never slept. I really don’t even remember him even taking a nap unless he was sick. So, the sleepless nights were pretty much right on target, and I changed a lot of dirty diapers amongst other things (thank you Foster Furniture Store, but that is a whole other story), and well let’s face it, I’m still cleaning up all the mess.

No one told me about what really changed. And I guess that is one of those great Mommy secrets that we keep to ourselves and just knowingly look at each other, sorta like Santa Claus.
No one told me that the day he took his first steps was gonna be better than front row seats at a U2 concert. No one told me that when he came home from preschool with his first piece of artwork that I would cherish that scribbled on piece of paper like it were the “Crowned Jewels”. No one told me that every smile, giggle, laugh, and “I love you” would totally be imprinted on my heart.

Thanks so much my Little Man for making everyday so much better than I could even hope for.
Happy mothers day to all the expecting, new, and old Mom’s!  It’s really awesome, isn’t it!

Getting back into the swing of things | KMC Portrait Photographer

Yep!  My winter break is almost over, and I’m getting back into the swing of things.  Lots of exciting things planned for Simply Taken in the next couple of months!  Starting with a big reveal tomorrow!  And bringing a couple of things back by popular demand!

There are several session that I’ve been waiting to post to the blog for various reasons…most are sessions from the summer, when I took a blog hiatus.  Can’t really explain the absence, was just going with a “feeling”.   So over the next little bit, mixed in with the excitement of new things to come, will be a few sessions from the summer.

Meet the wonderful H family!

Over the past couple of months, I’ve really gotten to know this sweet little Momma.  I have to say that I’m pretty sure she has seen me at my worst!  You see, among her many talents, she is also a personal trainer.  Yep, you guessed it…sweaty, puke-ish, no make-up, making weird straining faces, me in all my flabby glory!  And let me just say, working out, yeah, it stinks.  It’s hard, but man, I’m digging the weight loss!   I really want to be able to share all the contact info with you, but sadly, the H family is moving soon.  Hope I can keep up the “training” without her!

And couldn’t leave you without this one last picture…my FAVORITE!

When it rains…

So rain…yeah, rain.

I have to admit that I used to love rainy days like today.  It’s perfect snuggle time, and movie time, and lay on the bed with a good book time.  But when you live in a climate where rain is a weekly occurrence, it starts to get a little O.L.D.

And it interrupts your photo shoot plans for the day….not fun.

So I was working on a few marketing things and was thinking about a special client, and remembered these photo’s!

All of our schedules finally synced up but it just so happened that it was just about to come a rain storm.  But they were such troopers!  And we got the cutest rain shots ever!

I’m thinking about these guys today as they are preparing to welcome their new little baby girl into the family!  Love you guys!  Many Hugs!
